"We are not prejudicially opposed to cruise ships returning to La Maddalena," says the president of the National Park, Rosanna Giudice, who welcomes "these ideas, following examination of the proposal that the councilor will present to us, by the organization's offices and after hearing the opinion of the Port Authority." As you may recall, the tourism councilor, Gianvincenzo Belli, had returned to the forefront of the issue, reopening the debate on cruise ships on the National Park Island, a presence that after the The Costa Concordia disaster on Giglio Island had been prohibited by the subsequent Clini decree, which prohibited ships from stopping and staying in marine parks and protected areas. This rule initially stopped almost everyone, but was subject to several exemptions in subsequent years.
The issue had already been raised in 2022 by Councilor Belli, citing the precedents of Portofino and Porto Capraia. On that occasion, a technical meeting was convened with the Port Authority, the National Park, and the Italian Navy, which owns the buoy in the Santo Stefano harbor that would serve as an anchorage; however, the meeting was unsuccessful.
The next meeting with the National Park and the new management is scheduled for December 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the headquarters on Via Giulio Cesare. "We will listen to the proposal in all its aspects," stated President Rosanna Giudice, who intends to evaluate, together with the offices and other agencies, its safety level, with regard to environmental protection and the benefits the presence of cruise ships could bring to the La Maddalena community.
