The remediation of the former La Maddalena Arsenal is 80% complete and is expected to be completed in spring 2027. Regional President Alessandra Todde announced the news this morning during an inspection of the site, highlighting the nautical industry as one of the potential economic revitalization opportunities for the area. The governor retraced the events starting on March 27, 2024, when, shortly after taking office, she received a visit from the Tempio Pausania Prosecutor's Office regarding a pending inaction procedure regarding the remediation. Since then, she explained, the Region has resolved the ongoing dispute with the company involved since 2016, allowing work to resume in November 2025.

The work focuses primarily on the water surface, where capping is underway—covering the contaminated seabed with an isolation system. According to Todde, the work will secure the area while preserving its potential for recreational use and other productive activities. Regarding the future of the former Arsenal, the president identified the nautical and specialized shipbuilding industries as potential development sectors, also considering the saturation of Olbia's facilities. Todde recalled the over €400 million invested in the complex for the G8, ensuring the region's commitment to allocating the necessary resources to enhance its achievements. "I believe today is a time to say that promises must be kept, and we are working to keep these promises," she stated.

Meanwhile, an interdepartmental working group, working with the Municipality, is evaluating the possible uses for the structures . The dossier, Todde specified, is being followed directly by the Regional Presidency, with the aim of planning the recovery without waiting for the completion of the remediation.
