The dolphin in the photo, found dead in La Maddalena in the Punta Tegge area, was found last Thursday, and is still there waiting for the ASL Gallura to give the Municipality permission to transport it out to sea and sink it with heavy ballast.

It is a young specimen, female, about 1.80 meters long and died, presumably, not from disease but from being entangled in a fishing net, following an accidental capture. The death, unable to rise to the surface to breathe, would have occurred from suffocation.

The poor dolphin has some abrasions that could suggest a desperate attempt to free itself from the deadly grip of the nets, probably quite sturdy. Following the report, personnel from the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park immediately showed up on the scene, but in this case they are not competent to intervene: the matter is being handled by the Municipality and the ASL Gallura.
