"It wasn't me."
Antonio Luigi Fiori , the 48-year-old homeless man arrested for the murder of Nicola Pasquarelli, allegedly defended himself in this way, denying any wrongdoing.
The man appeared before the investigating judge of the Sassari court, Gian Paolo Piana, for the guarantee interrogation , which took place in the Bancali prison.
Accompanied by his lawyers Elisabetta Udassi and Roberto Risi, Fiori allegedly reiterated what he told prosecutor Lara Senatore and the agents of the mobile team last Saturday night at the police station, where he had been taken after his arrest and before being transferred to the Bancali prison . And that is his absolute extraneousness to the crime, while confirming that he knew the victim well.
But from what we learn during that interrogation Fiori often contradicted himself and this led to his arrest on charges of murder and concealment of a body.
In the next few hours, the investigating judge will decide whether to confirm the provision, consequently changing the judicial position of the suspect.
Based on what has been reconstructed so far, Pasquerelli, 78 years of Ittiri, at the height of a dispute would have been hit and killed, at least two weeks ago, with a stick to the nape and neck. Then covered in petrol and set on fire in a basin in front of the Piandanna Botanical Garden, leaving it to burn for several days. Later Fiori allegedly stole money from the pensioner's house and also a paypal card.
To motivate the homicidal gesture there would have been alleged reasons of jealousy, perhaps due to the presence of a third person, a twenty year old, in the relationship between the two. And it is still to be understood whether it is the same person who gave the alarm last Saturday morning to the State Police.
