The Port Authority of La Maddalena has issued a new ordinance regulating navigation in a large area of the archipelago affected by Navy training activities. The order, signed by Port Commander Vittorio Vanacore, is in effect from June 15 to July 5, 2026. The exercises, which will involve military personnel in both day and night activities, will take place within an area delimited by specific coordinates between the waters off the islands of Maddalena, Caprera, and the Gallura coast, as shown in the plan attached to the order.
Among the main requirements, military personnel must first verify that the affected area is free of vessels, swimmers, and other unauthorized persons. They must also ensure adequate lookout service and maintain constant radio monitoring on VHF channel 16 for any communications with passing vessels.
The ordinance imposes special precautions on yachtsmen and all captains of vessels sailing near the affected area. Civilian vessels must maintain at least 200 meters of distance from military vessels engaged in exercises, take all necessary precautions to avoid risky situations, and maintain radio listening on the maritime emergency channel. These restrictions were introduced for reasons of navigational safety and public safety, given the nature of the planned training activities.
The Harbour Master's Office reminds you that failure to comply with the provisions will result in the application of the sanctions set forth in the Navigation Code and the regulations on recreational boating.
