Yesterday afternoon, the municipality of Sant'Antioco was also affected by heavy rains that had led to the proclamation of a yellow alert by the Civil Protection (expired at 9 pm yesterday). The bad weather did not even spare the port and the Cristoforo Colombo seafront, literally overwhelmed by the water also because - aided by the south-westerly wind - the tide level rose, preventing the normal flow of water .
"Yesterday we witnessed an exceptional meteorological event (65mm in just over an hour)," reports the mayor of Sant'Antioco, Ignazio Locci, "which has deeply highlighted some structural criticalities of rainwater drainage that exist, are undeniable, and for which we have been working for some time". But the mayor points out that - given the extent of yesterday's events - it would have been difficult to avoid inconvenience: " Although in some areas of our city center, especially at the entrance to the town, these problems are particularly evident, in the face of sensational atmospheric events such as the one that occurred yesterday, even the best infrastructures would probably encounter difficulties ".
Locci points out that, in any case, the Municipality aims to resolve some problems related to traffic: «As regards access to the town, we have been working on it for some time and we are trying to get the work financed by the Sardinia Region ».
