It looks like a penguin, it's a razorbill: first sightings in Sardinia
The strange bird filmed and photographed in the waters of Pula and Villasimius. The director of the protected marine area: «Event of scientific relevance»It looks like a little penguin, it's a razorbill. In Sardinia there had never been sightings. Within two days, the bird's presence was reported twice: once in Pula , on November 30, and the other today, in the waters of the protected marine area of Capo Carbonara, in Villasimius .
Rare encounters, which however shouldn't surprise. These days reports are arriving from all over Italy. This is not a consequence of climate change or upheavals in the balance of the ecosystem.
The explanation comes from the director of the Amp, Fabrizio Atzori: «We can say that it is the first time that the presence of the razorbill has been documented in the waters of Villasimius», he says, «but if this fact has scientific value, it shouldn't cause a sensation : in the literature it is known that the western Mediterranean is an area frequented by this species. Now we have sightings. It can only please but no», he underlines, «we are not dealing with a discovery that derives from who knows what event. Now we know that it frequents our shores.'
