Over 500 firefighting teams from across Sardinia responded to the damage caused by the mistral wind that hit the island, accompanied by heavy rain.

The severe weather initially affected the Nuoro Command area, then spread to the Sassari Command area. This morning, calls also increased at the Cagliari and Oristano Commands.

The main types of intervention involve securing buildings by removing unsafe parts, landslides, and mudslides, as well as numerous fallen trees.

As of late afternoon, approximately 60 requests for assistance were still pending for Cagliari command, over 150 for Sassari, approximately 130 for Nuoro, and 25 for Oristano. "The operations rooms are dispatching teams based on rescue priority," the statement said.

Danni nella scuola di Villasimius

The municipality of Villasimius has seen a high concentration of calls, primarily for uprooted photovoltaic systems, unsafe air conditioning units, and numerous fallen trees, some of which are blocking traffic. Three teams have been dispatched from the Cagliari Command to that area alone.

In the municipality of Usini, several young people suffered minor injuries from a falling tree, while in Bonorva, a warehouse was blown off by gusts of wind.

In the Nuoro area, several provincial roads were closed due to fallen trees on the roadway. In Bari Sardo, Ogliastra, two families and two businesses were evacuated as a precaution due to a tall, unsafe tree.

In the Oristano area, the most affected area is that served by the Abbasanta Fire Brigade.
