Alghero is preparing to host Ironman 70.3, one of the most prestigious and popular events in the world of triathlon and endurance sports. On Sunday, the Riviera del Corallo will welcome approximately 3,000 athletes from 91 countries, confirming the city's position as one of the most popular international destinations for this type of competition. Municipal officials report that the Alghero leg sold out just weeks after registration opened, a sign of the growing interest the event continues to generate among athletes from around the world.

The overall attendance figures are also impressive: over 12,000 people are expected, including athletes, family members, companions, and staff, with significant economic benefits for accommodations, restaurants, businesses, and local services. The event's organization is the result of extensive planning over the past few months, involving the Municipal Administration, the Alghero Foundation, municipal offices, trade associations, neighborhood committees, volunteers, and all stakeholders. This is a massive organizational effort, unprecedented in size and complexity in the Alghero area. In response to the controversy surrounding traffic disruptions, the Municipality emphasizes that this aspect has been addressed with great care. Changes to traffic and urban and suburban connections have been designed to ensure the competition is held safely, while limiting disruption to residents, businesses, and visitors.

To reach the Maria Pia coast, alternative routes will be available via the road connecting Viale Primo Maggio and Via Tramontana, with the option of using the unpaved parking lots provided by the administration. Specific solutions have also been identified for workers at the affected businesses and for guests of the accommodation facilities in Porto Conte Bay who will be required to check out on Sunday morning. For Fertilia, the parking lot at the Palazzo dei Congressi amphitheater will be available, while urban and suburban public transportation will also undergo temporary changes planned to ensure the greatest possible continuity of services.

All information regarding the race routes, traffic changes, and available services can be found on the Alghero City Council website. The goal remains to combine the needs of an international sporting event with those of the city, transforming Ironman 70.3 into a global showcase for Alghero and the entire northwest Sardinia.
