Only one name, among the many famous ones that have dotted the history of Porto Rotondo, has become a geographical indication to forever mark one of the identifying places of the village: that of Ira von Fürstenberg.
Ira beach, which was once Sa Rena Manna, has been called this since the 1970s in honor of the Italian-German princess and actress, who passed away today at the age of 83.
Daughter of Prince Tassilo Fürstenberg and Clara Agnelli, Gianni's sister, in the mid-sixties - when the Venetian counts built the exclusive village on the coast of Olbia - she was the queen of the international jet set. He was part of the small circle of the very first pioneers who revolved around the creators of the village and their friends who had their headquarters at the Sporting hotel, one of the first buildings, or were in the boats in the harbor: the Agnellis, Paola di Liegi, Inge Feltrinelli, Antonioni and Monica Vitti. The first were followed by many others in a mix of members of the nobility and intellectuals who would for a long time constitute the hallmark of Porto Rotondo, a "living room" on the Gallura coast.
On the beach, in one of the most beautiful positions, the princess owned a plot on which a villa was built set in a juniper grove designed by Sandro Pianon who also designed other historic villas in Porto Rotondo. Since then Sa Rena Manna will be the Ira beach, today one of the most popular and loved in the area.
