A year and a half of suspended prison sentences were given to Colonel Marco Granari , former commander of the 151st Infantry Regiment of the Sassari Brigade, and to his then aide, Lieutenant Colonel Mario Piras .

Eight months, however, for the mayor of Mandas, Umberto Oppu s, at the time of the events general director of the regional department for Local Authorities, and for Giovanni Corona , the manager responsible for the spa facility in Sardara.

This is the sentence pronounced by the judges of the Second Criminal Section of the Court of Cagliari in the trial arising from the investigation into the so-called "Sardara Lunch" , the banquet that was held on 7 April 2021 in open violation of the anti-Covid regulations required for the orange zone that had been put in place throughout the island in those days .

About forty people, including regional leaders, politicians, mayors, health officials, and military personnel, had gathered in the restaurant. Many of them managed to escape when the Guardia di Finanza arrived and put a stop to the banquet-like gathering.
Once the investigation by public prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia was concluded, the prosecution charged Colonel Granari and Lieutenant Colonel Piras with embezzlement for the use of the company car, but also of some counterfeits .
Oppus and Corona, on the other hand, were charged with aiding and abetting . According to the prosecution, they aided the soldiers under investigation with testimonies and agreed-upon versions of the reasons for the presence at the lunch of the commander of the 151st Regiment of the Sassari Brigade.

The sentence will be filed in 90 days, after which the defense lawyers Antonio Marino (Granari), Donatella Figus (Piras), Gianluca Aste and Gianni Faa (Oppus), Aldo Schiavone and Giorgio Canetto (Corona) will be able to appeal.

The panel, presided over by Judge Giovanni Massidda, with his colleagues Roberto Cau and Luisa Rosetti, also ordered the case against Oppus and Corona be sent back to the Prosecutor's Office for consideration of a further charge of forgery committed by the private individual in a public document. The reason for this further decision will be understood only after the reasons for the ruling are given.
