After years of waiting and delays, primarily related to cost management, the green light has finally been given for the official opening of the Nuoro Intermodal Center , located between Via Lamarmora and Viale Trieste, next to the train station. The Regional Council has approved the resolution defining the methods for covering the costs of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the infrastructure , considered strategic for the urban and extra-urban mobility system in the Nuoro area.

The Intermodal Center, designed to facilitate interchange between urban, suburban, and rail public transport, is also included in the Preliminary Outline of the Regional Transport Plan, adopted by the Regional Council on August 7, 2025. This project represents a decisive step toward a more sustainable and integrated mobility model for the entire area.

"With this step," said Regional Transport Councilor Barbara Manca, "we are laying the foundation for finally making a key hub in the regional transportation system operational. The Nuoro Intermodal Center will improve accessibility, encourage the use of public transportation, and reduce reliance on private cars in a particularly strategic area of the island. It is an investment in residents' quality of life and territorial cohesion."

The project, completed with a total investment of over €6.8 million, includes a bus terminal with 18 stalls, large parking areas, a multi-story building with 125 parking spaces, service areas, and staff quarters . The work, overseen by the Municipality of Nuoro as the contracting authority, has given the city a modern and functional structure, ready to become a hub for mobility in the Barbagia region.

To ensure cost coverage, Councilor Manca has requested the inclusion of the necessary resources in the proposed 2026–2028 Budget. €55,000 is earmarked for 2026 and €45,000 for each of the 2027 and 2028 financial years. The Region also pledges to support extraordinary maintenance, subject to a technical evaluation of the interventions.
