The white sheet of paper, bearing serious insults and insults, was immediately noticed. And it was impossible not to notice since it was prominently displayed above a no-parking sign in front of the entrance to San Martino Hospital.
The insults targeted the doctors and nurses in the Medicine department, who were targeted by someone who went far beyond simple complaints. The sign was immediately removed, and the Local Health Authority (ASL 5) reported the incident to the Carabinieri, also because a similar incident had occurred about ten days earlier.
The management of the Oristano health authority expresses its full solidarity with the doctors and nurses who have come under attack. "It is unacceptable in any way to threaten, defame, or offend healthcare workers," said Federico Argiolas, special commissioner of the Oristano health authority. "This rule, which is the foundation of peaceful coexistence in a community, is even more valid if such actions are directed at those whose duty it is to protect the health and very lives of patients."
The Local Health Authority (ASL) recalls having already reported the incident to the authorities to identify those responsible. "Healthcare workers are committed to caring for and assisting patients every day, often in objectively demanding conditions," it adds. "Combining stress and concerns about potential verbal or physical assaults with their workload contributes to undermining the serenity of the work environment and, consequently, the quality of care."
