The Union of Penitentiary Police Unions reports what happened yesterday in Bancali, where a drug-addicted inmate attempted to attack a superintendent with a screwdriver, aiming for the eye despite the officer wearing a protective helmet. The incident, the USPP reports, allegedly arose after the inmate attempted to inhale gas from a canister. The attack resulted in serious injuries, in addition to the superintendent risking serious eye trauma: one officer suffered a serious shoulder injury, while two other prison officers suffered multiple bruises. All required treatment at the Sassari emergency room.

The president of the Uspp, Giuseppe Moretti, declared that "the attempted stabbing of a member of the Corps, requires us to request adequate defense tools for the operators , the strengthening of the staff to guarantee greater security and, more generally, urgent measures to truly protect the safety of prison workers."

The Provincial Secretary of the Sassari Prison Protection Unit, Gregory Francesco Saba, expressed his deepest sympathy for the officers involved and concluded: "This incident once again demonstrates the need for immediate and authoritative intervention by the competent authorities to restore safety and legality in the Bancali prison, ensuring the safety of the officers."
