On Sunday, March 15, to mark National Eating Disorders Day (ED), the tower of the Bastione di Saint Remy will be lit up in lilac, the color chosen throughout Italy to remind people of the importance of openly discussing anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and the many ways these disorders can manifest.
The initiative is part of the "Never Give Up" campaign, which invites institutions, schools, and citizens to unite in a message of support and awareness. Eating disorders represent one of the most pressing health and social emergencies among adolescents and young adults. According to specialized associations, cases have been on the rise in recent years, partly due to the emotional impact of social changes, the pressure of aesthetic standards, and the use of social media.
Talking about it, making it visible, is the first step to breaking down prejudices and promoting access to care. "Lighting up a symbolic place like the Bastione means making the city feel a sign of solidarity, an invitation not to ignore the problem and to remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but the surest path to recovery," reads a statement from the Municipality.
