A circular mirror representing two communities: Solarussa and Sanluri, above many white roses donated by children . Two towns that 22 years ago, on July 3, 2002, mourned the death of Dr. Roberta Zedda, killed in the emergency medical clinic on Via Garibaldi . She died at just 33 years old at the hands of what should have been a patient seeking treatment . From this evening in Solarussa there is a square dedicated to her memory . It is located in front of the Town Hall.

It was inaugurated in the presence of the authorities but above all of the citizens . They were the ones who wanted to keep alive the memory of the doctor from Sanluri.

Some time ago the administration promoted a survey aimed at identifying illustrious figures to whom to name some streets and squares of the town. Over 40% of the 484 citizens involved in the survey indicated the name of Roberta Zedda as worthy of being included in the municipal toponymy . And today the will of the citizens has materialized.

"Even though such a long period of time has passed since the tragedy that extinguished the dreams of the young doctor, a close, strong and indelible bond has remained in our country," said Mayor Mario Tendas. "I would also like this square to become a space for reflection, a starting point."

The initiative was promoted by the municipal administration of Solarussa, in collaboration with the Municipality of Sanluri and the National Federation of the Order of Physicians. At 6:30 p.m., mass was celebrated, followed by the dedication ceremony. Also present was the architect Roberto Virdis, who designed the sculpture in memory of the doctor. "Her sacrifice was not in vain," explains Filippo Anelli, National Federation of the Orders of Surgeons and Dentists. "There have been many initiatives organized since that murder to raise awareness on the issue of violence against healthcare workers. No one should die in the workplace. An unacceptable situation, especially in the healthcare sector where there is dedication and altruism."

Also present yesterday was Roberta's mother, Eifisiana, along with her brother Antonello who, with shining eyes, intervened to greet everyone present: "I feel alive inside me the memory of that day, of my sister Roberta, even if her absence has dominated for 22 years". And then she read a poem as if she, Roberta, were speaking: "To you who remain I would like to say that I am fine but I cannot. I am what I was in your memory. Look for me in the sky, among the stars, when the night is deep I am the spark". And the applause filled the square.
