Fired via WhatsApp in Sassari. The Filcams CGIL union reported in a statement that six Logicon srl workers , employed on a contract at the Tecnomat warehouse, were fired just as the holidays are about to begin.
"As families prepare for Easter," the union writes, "Logicon has formally announced the termination of the employment relationship following the termination of the contract with the client Tecnomat."
A procedure described as " unacceptable. We are faced with a brutal act, devoid of human sensitivity and in complete disregard for contractual norms," attacks Maddalena Ruiu, general secretary of Filcams CGIL Sassari. "The company not only fired six people via WhatsApp and email, but it did so completely bypassing the union. No information was sent, nor were we summoned for the joint review required by the Multiservice National Collective Bargaining Agreement in the event of contract termination. This is a serious violation of the democratic rules that govern the world of work."
According to the union, Logicon justified the measure with a generic "reduction in activity and consequent reduction in staff" due to "cost reduction" and by declaring an alleged "objective impossibility of relocation," without ever allowing worker representatives to verify the accounts or propose alternatives.
The national contract, they point out, "is not a suggestion, it's an obligation. Firing workers 'from one day to the next' without even attempting to negotiate is an insult to the union history of this area," the union continues. "Tecnomat cannot stand by and watch while one of its suppliers acts in the shadows to eliminate jobs just before Easter. We have immediately requested an urgent meeting with both Logicon and Tecnomat to put a stop to this outrage. We will not allow this method to become the norm: we will challenge these layoffs at every level."
