The average age of cars on the road in Sardinia continues to rise, with the island having the third oldest cars on the road in Italy.
This is according to a study by Facile.it , which calculated that the average age of vehicles driving on the island's roads is 14 years, an increase of 2 years compared to the previous survey, compared to the national average of 12 years and six months.
Looking at provincial data, Nuoro is the area with the oldest cars (15 years and 11 months) ; next in the ranking are the provinces of Southern Sardinia, with an average age of 14 years and 10 months, and Oristano (14 years and 8 months). The Sardinian province with the youngest cars is Cagliari, where, as of April 2026, the average age was 13 years and 2 months, followed by Sassari with 13 years and 7 months.
The study highlights that the car fleet "has aged on average across almost the entire region, with a range between +4% in Nuoro and Southern Sardinia and +1% in Cagliari. The only exceptions are Oristano and Sassari, where the age of the fleet has remained stable compared to twelve months ago."
