The Quartiere Castello association is preparing to celebrate 30 years of activity : the celebrations for this important milestone will officially begin with the 27th artistic-artisanal exhibition “Per la Strada”. Some initiatives of the exhibition, in fact, will be dedicated to the celebration of the 30 years of the association, while other moments of celebration will be organized throughout the year.

The review

The preview of the festival will start on Saturday 24 May at 18:00 with the dressing ceremony of the Mamuthones and Issohadores of Mamoiada, guests of honour of the event, in Piazza Municipio, followed by a travelling performance through the city streets.

The heart of the event will be Sunday 25 May, with the official opening of the show at 9:00 am at Sa Costera : «We have registered a 40% increase in exhibitors compared to last year – says Francesca Nonnis, president of the association –. This year we have managed to involve many interesting and unique entities: from the makers of Sardinian masks, who will work live, to pyrographers on pumpkins, from restorers to graphic designers. We also have a section dedicated to street food, with various stands, from the more traditional to the international ones. The novelty this year will be a stand of Asian foods. It is the starting point for being able to have, over the years, an increasingly international show!».

At 11 am, the official inauguration will see the participation of the authorities, the Folk Group "Città di Iglesias" and will be accompanied by the blessing in via Sassari.

The itinerant parade with the Mamuthones and Issohadores will follow at 11:30, with whom the association has started a cultural exchange: «They come for the festival – explains Nonnis – and we will go to them, with the flag-wavers, in July!». Together with the Mamoiada groups, the majestic Gigantes of Sennori and «the Janas of Bosa – continues Nonnis – will parade, wanted to offer an all-female representation of the folk groups, but also to celebrate the craftsmanship of the masks».

In Piazza Pampino, for the whole day, there will be the playground «Sa Costera Land», the laboratory of emotions and the baptism of the saddle. «There will also be a space with artistic installations – continues Nonnis – where visitors can interact and take selfies. Finally, we will present the official mascot of the association: Aquilino!».

At 7 pm, a final traveling show with the Janas of Bosa will precede the award ceremony for the “Best Artisan 2025”, promoted by the cultural association Prendas of Iglesias. The grand finale, at 9 pm, will be entrusted to the ska music of Skaosss.

The 30 years

The history of the Quartiere Castello association is one that writes the same history of Iglesias. Committed to medieval reenactments, the association has always collaborated with teachers and professional figures of historical research, so that it can elaborate a reenactment that is ever more faithful to historical events and customs.

"We can consider ourselves very satisfied with these 30 years - says the president -. We have a group of 50 elements including musicians, flag-wavers, figures and a medieval show that we are bringing throughout Sardinia, much appreciated by all the municipalities. Furthermore, we are one of the few associations to organize numerous events in the city thanks to our volunteers who work and dedicate themselves for free out of passion and love for Iglesias".

Future projects

"We have so many other proposals for the city, enough to fill a calendar for almost every month - concludes the president -. We would like to try to make the historical initiatives grow by increasing the funds with further financing to allow us to have high-level services and guests. All the proposals have already been presented to the administration, but what we want most of all is to send an important message: the synergy between all social realities!"
