Hydrogeological risk in Sassari, Mayor Mascia: «The canal will not be built»

“I won’t do the canal”. The mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia clears up the hesitation and assures that the work of mitigating the hydrogeological risk, planned by the previous administration, will have another development.
“A functional section - explains the mayor - that allows for the creation of passages for the flow of water through the embankments, so as to mitigate the hydraulic risk that actually exists and to hypothesize the possibility of reclassifying the area within the PAI, the Hydrogeological Planning Scheme”.
The aim of the remodeling is instead to create an urban park in the valley system. All information was communicated yesterday, in the conference room of Palazzo Ducale, to the president of the Cappuccini neighborhood committee, Uccio Virdis, to the local representatives of Italia Nostra, Piero Sanna and Mauro Gargiulo, the president of Heart Gardeners, Anna Lacci, and the president of the Sassari Environment Committee, Giuseppe Porcellana. Also present were a large number of majority councilors and municipal councilors in addition to the director of the Infrastructure and Mobility sector Fabio Spurio.
“The project of those who preceded us - continues Mascia - is not compatible with our expectation of preserving the environmental specificities of the area, of protecting its biodiversity and of promoting its valorization and use by the community”.
The mayor then reports on a large competition of ideas "to decide together how to regain possession of our valleys and connect them to the urban context".
“It is necessary to review the mitigation intervention in order to make it compatible with the dual need to prevent hydraulic risk and redevelop the area as a whole”.
And when the project is formalized it will be communicated to the City Council and the citizens, adds Mascia. In the meantime, the previous project, financed with 5 million euros from the PNRR, had already seen a winner even if the entire operation was at a standstill awaiting the regional Environmental Impact Assessment.
