Increased safety in the area and implementation of useful interventions to counter the hydrogeological risk: these are the aspects on which the Region invites the mayors of Sardinia, the Provinces and the Unions of Municipalities to pay the utmost attention.

"During the course of the Legislature, the Region intervened in emergency situations with its own resources and extraordinary measures, but also and above all in the important preventive action aimed at safeguarding and protecting the territories. Today we continue on the path traced, acting in concert with all subjects called to intervene in various capacities in protecting the environment, our most precious asset ", said the President of the Region Christian Solinas, recalling the importance of the fundamental action carried out by the mayors, deployed in the front line in defense of their communities.

The document with the indications on the subject of urgent interventions to contrast hydrogeological risk, also shared with the Civil Protection, the Forestry Corps, the Civil Engineers, the Hydrographic District of Sardinia and with the competent Departments (Public Works and Local Authorities), in addition to indicating the priority actions to ensure safety, it focuses on the importance of adapting municipal plans for hydraulic and hydrogeological risk to the provisions of the Regional Civil Protection Plan for hydraulic, hydrogeological and adverse meteorological risks.

From the point of view of structural measures, once the criticalities that can modify the hydrogeological structure and compromise safety have been assessed, the competent subjects are called upon to identify the types of expeditious and urgent structural interventions, both hydraulic and geomorphological. In the first case, the cleaning of river beds - which must take place for about 100 meters upstream and downstream of road-network intersections - with the elimination of disturbing elements and impediments to the regular flow of water (uprooted trees, solid materials and waste that can occlude or reduce the runoff sections of watercourses) and the selective cutting of vegetation which can affect the regular runoff of water; actions for hydraulic safety of bridges or works of art through urgent ordinary or extraordinary maintenance.

Great attention is also required for the burial or guard canals and for the monitoring of activities capable of determining the production of significant solid volumes that can be transported downstream during flood events.

On the other hand, the main geomorphological safety measures include the removal of any material from the slope or vegetation that is unstable or damaged by fires; ordinary and extraordinary preventive maintenance interventions to secure and stabilize the slopes; the removal of any unsafe blocks and the positioning of restraint systems; the regulation of surface flowing waters.
