The hell of flames, fire and fear. Then the rebirth and the recovery, thanks to a wave of solidarity because no one is saved alone. It happens in Sestu when the house where Daniela Atzeni lives is destroyed by a fire, but a spontaneous collection in a few days helped her get back on her feet. Now she is looking for a new house in Sestu or nearby, where she can live with her two daughters.

The near tragedy occurred last Wednesday, in the apartment where Atzeni, 48, and her daughters lived. "We were suddenly woken up by the heat and saw the flames," Atzeni recalls on the phone. "We had nowhere else to go, so now we are staying with friends in Capoterra. We lost everything in the fire, starting with our clothes; the house is uninhabitable."

Within a few hours, however, a collection was also launched to help them: "I live nearby, my daughter goes to school with one of Daniela's daughters," says Sandra Serra, 51. "I started looking for help, and in a few hours word of mouth spread. In a few days we collected a lot, we started from the neighborhood but the collection grew, and there are people who came to bring stuff from outside Cagliari, some even contacted us from the rest of Italy to make a monetary donation," Serra recalls, moved.

So after a few days the collection is interrupted: «I want to thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart», continues Daniela, «now we would like to return to Sestu, because this town is our home».

They lived in a rented apartment and Daniela, who is a single mother and works, never let her daughters go without anything. And maybe this time too, solidarity will not be lacking. Who knows, someone might have a house to rent, right now. "I feel grateful right now, we are all fine, and so much generosity received also gives me a little hope."
