The latest dream is to set up a "nautical hub", but it will be possible only after the end of the reclamation operations on the seabed of the small port. The former Arsenal of Maddalena has been waiting for a new life for 17 years.
The mega renovation between 2008 and 2009 – aimed at organizing the G8 on the island, then hosted in L’Aquila – cost the State over 300 million euros. On that occasion, the keys to the conference center and the hotel on the water, built following the design by Stefano Boeri, were passed to the administration of Viale Trento: the real estate complex that belonged to the Navy is part of the over 3,000 buildings transferred from the State Property Agency to the Autonomous Region of Sardinia to date .
