A battle erupted in the courtroom today in Tempio Pausania during the first hearing of the trial into the deaths of four horses from the Clodia stable (Rome). The thoroughbreds Bandidu De Zamaglia, Bomodel Da Clodia, Bometeor, and Botrus died from "prolonged hyperthermia."

The incident occurred in the garage of the Moby Aki ferry on the night of July 13, 2020. Attorney Nazarena Tilocca, the civil plaintiff's lawyer for the Anguillara Sabazia stable and the Horse Angels association, along with prosecutor Gianmarco Vargiu, opposed the exclusion of the Moby company as civilly liable, which therefore remains involved in the criminal proceedings.

The accused are the ferry crew members, Francesco Lo Nostro and Ernesto Prudente , who are charged with forgery for having declared to the captain, with a subsequent attestation in the nautical log, that the four horses had been cared for and were in good health.

The documents reveal that Bandidu De Zamaglia, Bomodel Da Clodia, Bometeor, and Botrus were sired by the champion Bombolino, a horse who went down in Anglo-Arabian history. The trial will resume next May.
