A kennel-camp, which housed 120 dogs of various breeds and ages, "crammed inside metal cages in seriously compromised hygienic-sanitary conditions".
This is what the soldiers of the Temporary Carabinieri Station of Flumini di Quartu discovered, at the end of specific investigations and thanks to information collected during territorial control services.
The illegal kennel was located in the Santu Lianu area, along the Bacca Mandra municipal road.
The operation was conducted by the military together with the staff of the Cagliari ASL-Hygiene Service and the CITIES Unit of Cagliari.
During the blitz, animals were found malnourished and in very poor health, amidst piles of rubbish. The structure was thus placed under seizure and the animals freed and entrusted to an authorized kennel in Selargius and to the Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena, which will provide the necessary care and their relocation to suitable structures.
At the end of the operations, the military reported two women for mistreatment of animals and illicit management of waste: an 80-year-old pensioner and a 52-year-old unemployed woman, «who – explains a note from the Army – were tenants of the land and responsible for the custody some animals".
