Tears and emotion for the last farewell , this afternoon in Sassari, given to Gavina Massidda, who died after being hit by a tram last December 15 in Shaerbeek, Belgium. Hundreds of people gathered in the Pio X parish of Li Punti, on the outskirts of the capital of Sassari, to be close to the parents of the 57-year-old, Giovanni and Monika, her brother Walter and Monika, Gavina's daughter.
"A death like this - said the parish priest Don Costantino who, before the funeral, blessed the woman's ashes - seems to make no sense. But we must leave aside all negative feelings".
At the end of the ceremony, Walter's words were read, recalling their shared emigration to Belgium and the many years spent abroad where the 57-year-old, shortly before her death, was working in a restaurant with her 24-year-old daughter. "You will always remain in our hearts," concluded her brother. "We love you."
