A scary morning this morning on the trail leading down to Cala Luna. A 46-year-old Sardinian hiker was injured after being struck on the head by a falling rock. She also suffered a fractured ankle in the fall. Emergency services were immediately alerted, and Echo Lima 1 was deployed.
The Areus helicopter, taking off from its base in Olbia, reached the remote area and lowered the medical team with a winch. The aircraft then parked directly on the beach at Cala Luna to expedite the rescue operation. The woman, who remained alert and conscious throughout the rescue, was immobilized, loaded onto a stretcher, and recovered with a winch. Once stabilized on board, the hiker was transported to the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro for treatment. As always in these operations in the remote areas of the Supramonte, the expertise of the Areus crew was crucial.
