Route 195 remains closed, chaos and disruption on the alternative route: queues on Route 130
Traffic flow towards Cagliari has been diverted at the Macchiareddu roundabout on the consortium's main road. From the capital city, towards Pula, it is necessary to take the 130, then the SP2. Delays and disruptions are expected.A section of State Road 195 has reopened, between the Macchiareddu roundabout (near the Rumianca pier) and Capoterra. The rest of the road, from there to Cagliari, remains closed: the damage caused by the storm surge to the two-lane stretch of road that runs along Giorgino beach is still being assessed.
ANAS personnel and vehicles are working on the roadway. The removal of debris unloaded by the waves driven by Cyclone Harry is well underway and, according to a statement from the road management company, "has allowed the reopening of a two-kilometer stretch between the roundabout at kilometer 8.600 (at the jetty) and kilometer 10.600, in the municipality of Capoterra." The green light was given after 6:00 PM.
However, "the remaining section of the road will remain closed, between the start of the route, at the entrance to Cagliari, and km 8.600, where the main road surface cleanup activities were carried out this morning and will continue tomorrow."
This is because, at the same time, "Anas technicians are continuing to assess the extent of the damage and initiate the subsequent restoration and safety measures to be carried out on the stretch."
A long stretch of the dock collapsed under the force of the waves, and it remains unclear whether the damage is superficial or whether the water has damaged the seabed.
Traffic heading towards Cagliari is being diverted onto the Macchiareddu consortium road. Vehicles heading towards Pula are directed onto State Road 130, from there onto the SP2 and then onto the same consortium road, re-entering the reopened section.
This evening, miles of traffic jams formed on the 130, causing significant disruption. Today, with the reopening of schools, the situation threatens to worsen.
