In the past few hours, many people have decided to make a small or large contribution to support Antonio Cannas , a Sarrabus farmer whose cows were condemned to be slaughtered due to contracting lumpy skin disease. A wave of support for the family quickly spread on social media and chat rooms, with a GoFundMe fundraiser.
The race, however, quickly came to a halt. "In this very difficult moment, with great dignity and respect, Antonio asked me to stop everything . Despite the pain he is experiencing, he prefers not to launch fundraisers or initiatives of this kind." Giorgio Fanni, a Muravera entrepreneur and promoter of the initiative, announced this on social media , having already received support from many users.
"Antonio wants to face this moment in silence, with his family. This choice, today, does him even more honor," adds Fanni. "He sincerely thanks everyone for their support. And I believe the best way to respect him is precisely this: to be close to him, but respect his wishes. For those who have already donated, an automatic refund will arrive in the coming days."
The collection was created to support the Cannas family, who have "built a life step by step." But today, due to several cases of bovine dermatitis, the entire herd has had to be slaughtered. "From one day to the next, they will find themselves with nothing: from nearly two hundred animals to nothing. This isn't just a huge financial loss, it's also a huge blow for the future: starting over won't be easy or quick," Fanni wrote on social media.
