The heat emergency has yet to enter its most critical phase, and in Sardinia temperatures have already exceeded 45 degrees today . ARPAS monitoring stations recorded a maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees in Orani. The values reached in other localities on the island are also shocking: 43.5 degrees in Benetutti and Berchidda, 43.3 in Masainas, 43.2 in Ottana, 43.1 in Arborea .

The highest temperatures were recorded in inland areas, with Oschiri, Ozieri, Milis, Putifigari, Iglesias, and Bonnanaro also recording temperatures above 42 degrees.

Overall, out of 83 ARPAs monitoring stations, 25 recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees. 71 were well above 35. All the others, however, were well above 30: the lowest maximum was recorded in Orosei, 32 degrees.

Last night's data are also impressive, the minimum in Valledoria touched 30 degrees (29.8 to be precise) . It was a tropical night almost everywhere on the island between 13th and 14th July, with minimums above 20 degrees and in many cases even 25. In addition to the data from Valledoria, those from Uras (27.1), Stintino (26.8), Meana Sardo (26.7), Masainas (26.4) and Domus De Maria (26) stand out. The night was a little cooler only in the mountain areas, with minimums below 12 degrees in Gavoi and Villanova Strisaili.

And we're not at the peak yet, because the peak of this third heat wave is expected between Thursday, July 16th and Friday, July 17th . The regional Civil Protection has issued a four-day alert, starting today until Friday evening.

Cagliari, under an orange warning today and tomorrow, will be red on Thursday, July 16th, in the Ministry of Health's usual heatwave bulletin . The red warning indicates the highest risk level, with potential negative effects on the health of healthy, active people , not just the most at-risk subgroups such as the elderly, young children, and those with chronic diseases.

Meanwhile, in Sassari, the Municipality has activated Sardinia's first network of climate shelters, with 22 sites offering shelter open to the public. And on the occasion of the European Day in Remembrance of the Victims of the Climate Crisis, scheduled for tomorrow, the European Climate Pact is organizing public events in Venice and Nuoro to remember the victims, raise awareness of the risks, and promote safe places for communities.
