A 65-year-old man who suffered a heart attack on board a passenger ship was rescued during the night by the Cagliari Coast Guard .

The man was traveling on board the ro-ro vessel Carthage of Tunisia Ferries sailing from Tunis to Genoa and felt ill while the vessel was about 40 miles south of Capo Carbonara. The captain raised the alarm. The Nemo Aw139 helicopter of the Decimomannu Coast Guard was sent to the scene.

Recovering the 65-year-old was not easy due to the strong mistral wind blowing at around 45 knots, the rough seas of force 5-6 and the night time.

The heart attack victim was harnessed and brought aboard the helicopter with a winch . He was then rushed to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari where he was admitted.
