"We need a leap forward and a change of pace in healthcare management," said Fausto Durante , regional secretary of the CGIL, after the face -to-face meeting between the unions and Governor Alessandra Todde to take stock of the problems facing Sardinia's healthcare system.
"Today's meeting was of an interlocutory nature and not entirely satisfactory," Durante explained. He added: "According to what was stated this morning, there appear to be tentative signs of improvement in the overall situation, but they are not enough to change our opinion. Therefore, the reasons for the previously announced call for action remain firm for the CGIL. At the same time, the union will work to continue the dialogue with CISL and UIL."
" Immediate decisions are needed regarding staffing, beds, and organization," said UIL Sardegna, UIL FP, and UILP. According to the union, despite a "positive turnaround," "staffing remains insufficient, even though there has been an increase in hiring: an important signal, but one that is still not enough to fill the gaps accumulated over the years."
Furthermore, " serious structural deficiencies remain, starting with the lack of beds, particularly in long-term care and rehabilitation . But not only that. The situation is similar in specialties such as traumatology, orthopedics, pulmonology, internal medicine, and psychiatry." Furthermore, "it is necessary to introduce a clear mechanism for redistributing resources and personnel, accompanied by a system of incentives capable of making the most disadvantaged locations attractive and ensuring equity in services throughout the region," the UIL specifies.
As for social policies, "they cannot move at a different pace from healthcare." The two areas "must proceed hand in hand, because only integration between the two systems can guarantee effective responses to people's needs."
Finally, UIL Sardegna, UIL FP, and UILP reiterate: "The unblocking of company documents, which have been stalled for over seven months, can no longer be postponed: this delay is paralyzing the reorganization of the healthcare system and impeding effective management of services. Sardinian healthcare needs concrete decisions that can no longer be postponed. The road is still long, but we must continue to work to achieve results."
