The Democratic Party and Regional President Alessandra Todde have never been so distant . Today they will share the stage in the Regional Council for a common cause: the consideration of two motions to oppose the mass transfer of mafia inmates to Sardinian prisons . But they are aware that the rift over the appointments of the Cagliari and Olbia local health authorities has left its mark. On Sunday, the Democratic Party did not attend the regional council meeting, thus failing to secure the votes of its three councilors , a pattern seen again in April 2025 when the special commissioners were appointed.
Yesterday, in a lengthy statement, Democratic Party Secretary Silvio Lai explained the reasons: "The resolutions present legal uncertainty. Healthcare is the most sensitive sector for people's lives and the Region's finances, and it cannot continue like this for long ." Legal uncertainty because "the two companies in question are involved in ongoing disputes with general managers improperly dismissed in April, who have not renounced legal action against the Region. In a context marked by a recent significant ruling by the Constitutional Court and a ruling by the Sardinian Regional Administrative Court, we believe it is our duty to avoid further actions that could expose the regional administration, including its members, to legal and financial risks ." Actions such as the two resolutions will be the subject of new appeals (certainly that of the former director general of ASL 8, Marcello Tidore).
A new phase is now dawning within the majority. In the background is the reshuffle, with the Democratic Party—the party with a relative majority—now feeling even more justified in demanding a fourth councilorship.
Tensions over the local health authorities are ushering in a busy week for Campo largo, especially for the governor: the leader of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte , is arriving in Cagliari the day after tomorrow; the appeal hearing on the forfeiture case is on Friday (with a decision, perhaps, on the same day); and Saturday is the day of the mobilization called for by Todde on Article 41 bis.
