The Five Star Movement in Alghero supports the regional healthcare reform and is confident in Cagliari's plans for the Catalan city . "After years of centralization and the loss of facilities, the new regional healthcare reform has begun a process of rebuilding local healthcare , restoring autonomy and a leading role to local facilities ," explains Five Star Movement councilor Giusy Piccone.

In the first ten months of 2025, the Sassari Local Health Authority (ASL) implemented a major expansion plan for the Alghero Civil Hospital : 28 new doctors, both permanent and freelance, and 52 new healthcare professionals, including nurses, healthcare assistants, midwives, and technicians. Key departments—anesthesia and resuscitation, surgery, pediatrics, cardiology, and the emergency room—have been strengthened, with a recruitment program that will continue over the three-year period 2025-2027. In addition to the new hires, over twenty infrastructure projects valued at over €20 million are underway, from fire safety upgrades to the renovation of the Civil Hospital, the expansion of the emergency room, and the new Radiology, Ophthalmology, and Pediatrics departments. Among the most significant projects are the Community Center on Via degli Orti, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), and the District's Territorial Operations Center . According to the Five Star Movement, these projects include new diagnostic technologies, CT scans, MRI scans, and digital systems for the emergency room, as well as extraordinary maintenance work on networks and facilities. A key aspect of this project is the Marino Hospital, a facility of the AOU Sassari University Hospital, which continues to be a key asset of Alghero's healthcare system.

" There will be no dismantling of the Marino ," assures Giusy Piccone. "Renovation and safety measures have been completed, including the modernization of the operating rooms and the orthopedics, rehabilitation, and surgery departments. New diagnostic and physiotherapy equipment is also on the way, to consolidate the Marino's role as a center of excellence for rehabilitation and sports trauma." The Five Star Movement will monitor the situation, assures Piccone. "We must look forward with a vision: a modern, efficient hospital, integrated with the local network and the Community Centers, where prevention and treatment go hand in hand."
