The SOS Barbagia-Mandrolisai Committee will also be present at the summit called for tomorrow (3 pm) at the regional health department by the president of the Region, Alessandra Todde.

During the roundtable discussion, attended by Committees from across the island, "an update on the work done to date" will be held, along with "the progress of activities and a discussion of current actions, as well as the next operational steps," as emphasized by the President's Cabinet Chief Stefano Ferreli in the invitation sent to the Committees.

The SOS Committee, long involved in the permanent presence at the San Camillo Hospital in Sorgono, emphasized this crucial meeting, especially for the future of small hospitals: "We sense," the activists say, "that there's not enough attention, and almost none of the critical issues have been addressed. The acute care unit is exhausted and relies on the support of two doctors who are now close to retirement."

But the problems are said to be more extensive than expected: "Work is still underway to open the community hospital, and there's no news about which staff will manage it," SOS says, adding: "Even if suitable personnel are found, we fear the other part of the hospital won't be fully operational."

And regarding the community homes being opened in various areas of the region, activists reiterate: "We have no communication regarding the future of these facilities. We only know that family doctors are supposed to provide services there, while the only progress is the ongoing construction."
