Healthcare, employment, industrial crises, and youth. These were the central themes of the 19th UIL Sardinia congress, which concluded with Fulvia Murru's reappointment as head of the regional secretariat.

Applause and blue flags punctuated the assembly's proceedings, where a clear message to politicians came from the stage: "It's no longer time for announcements."

In his speech, Murru highlighted healthcare as the top priority: "When there are no solutions for citizens' health, there are no jobs and no future." He also criticized the regional healthcare system, with its waiting lists and passive mobility: "Too many Sardinians are forced to seek treatment outside the island."

Employment was also a central theme of the conference. "Our employment rate is stuck at 58%, just over one in three young people are employed, and often that's not enough," the secretary explained, highlighting the rise in involuntary part-time work and the risk of depopulation: "Sardinia is among the oldest regions in Europe."

National Secretary Pierpaolo Bombardieri also reiterated this on stage, focusing on job insecurity and quality: "Employment is growing, but quality isn't. Too many young people work for low wages and unstable contracts." He warned: "If stability and decent wages aren't guaranteed, young people will continue to leave Sardinia and Italy."

On the industrial front, the UIL relaunches the Sulcis dispute and calls for a change of pace in national and regional policies: "We need real industrial decisions, not stopgap measures."

The congress's stated goal remains organizational as well: "We want to become the leading union in Sardinia."
