Health in Alghero: «Pediatrics short of doctors»
Focus of the Municipal Commission on hospitals: «Orthopedics are good, the closure of the maternity ward is a sore pointPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
In Alghero, the Health Commission discusses the future of the two hospitals.
President Christian Mulas presented a detailed analysis of the interventions and services offered by the two hospitals in recent years, from 2021 to today, department by department.
As for orthopedic interventions , according to Mulas, «in recent years we have observed a notable increase that reflects the improvement in the operational capabilities of our facility , especially since the transition to University Hospital (Aou)», he reports. In fact, we have gone from 226 interventions in 2021 to 842 in 2024.
"The recent closure of the orthopedics department in Nuoro has increased the demand for our services," added the president of the Health Commission.
Among the critical issues identified, however, is the pediatrics department of the Civile, still short of doctors and therefore operational only until 8 pm . Despite this, Mulas underlined, «it has seen a significant commitment and an increase in the number of consultations, with a total of about 3500 consultations per year, despite the presence of only 4 pediatricians who work on H12 shifts».
A sore point is the birth point closed from November 2023: «This situation has had a significant impact on the hospital's ability to guarantee an adequate service in terms of assistance to women giving birth and maternity , undermining support for birth and fertility in the area. The closure of such an important department, without a clear reopening plan, risks further compromising the ability of our facility to guarantee assistance to all women who need health support during childbirth».
