A man has been reported to the police for several thefts that occurred in the city's churches. The Flying Squad's investigation began after a complaint was filed by the parish priest of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, where thefts of money from collection boxes were commonplace.
The officers identified the alleged perpetrator by analyzing video surveillance footage and then decided to follow him. They saw him leave the Church of San Francesco and ride his bike to the Basilica of Nostra Signora del Rimedio, in the hamlet of Donigala Fenughedu . Once inside the place of worship, they caught him red-handed. When searched, the man was found in possession of several coins, as well as a tape measure and a flashlight.
Taken to the police station, the man was charged with aggravated theft. He was also issued a mandatory expulsion order, banning him from returning to the city .
