"One of our guys just turned down €15,000 to rent a small plot of land on which to erect an 80-meter anemometer. The lease is for just one year. A lot of money, offered by one of the companies that wants to install wind turbines in Marmilla."

Villanovaforru Mayor Maurizio Onnis, one of the most active citizens in opposing the proliferation of renewable energy plants in Sardinia, announced this: one of his fellow citizens has rejected the financially advantageous proposal from a company that—given the nature of the project—plans to study the local winds with the aim of building a wind farm.

"It must be said," Onnis continues, "that the refusal was possible because ours knows he has a community behind him that doesn't want to be exploited. Social bonds also work this way: if they don't leave you alone, you strengthen yourself and go against the flow."

The mayor emphasizes that "the camp isn't even in the Villanovaforru area, but just beyond. Communities must protect each other, because this is a threat that affects everyone: the affected municipalities and even those unaffected by speculation. We can't turn a blind eye." Resistance, according to Onnis, "is possible. Resistance is a duty. And the first person to complain, 'If he doesn't do it, someone else will,' isn't demonstrating great intelligence. He's just proving himself to be a poor loser. The energy transition isn't something we're going to do on our own."
