The Sassari Court of Appeal upheld the conviction of Alberto Picci, accused of the murder of his father, Giuseppe , in the attack that took place in his parents' home in Santa Maria Coghinas on the night of April 27, 2022. Today, the court, presided over by Maria Teresa Lupinu, sentenced the 50-year-old to 24 years in prison plus three years of REMS , as requested by prosecutor Marinella Pittaluga.

Three years ago the man attacked his father while he was sleeping, attacking him with a harpoon, which lodged in his throat up to the back of his skull, and with a diving knife, causing serious injuries .

In 2023, the pensioner, who had been hospitalized for eight months, lost his life as a result of injuries he suffered, which had caused him swallowing problems and also compromised his breathing. The attack also targeted his mother, Giovanna Drago, who was stabbed in the head with a knife.

Picci suffered from mental health problems , aggravated, as defense attorney Claudio Mastandrea argued, by various tribulations at home, with his partner, and at work, and had ended up building up a great deal of anger. During that night, as reported in the first instance, he had felt an "injection of hatred" that had driven him to act.
