A 78-year-old man, Piero Mario Veglio, died late in the evening in Cagliari due to a fire that broke out in his home in via Duca di Genova. The alarm went off around 9.30 pm and the Pirri carabinieri, the firefighters and the 118 rescuers arrived on the spot.

The fire, probably started from a small electric stove, developed in the bedroom. But damage also occurred in other rooms.

The doctors tried to resuscitate the 78-year-old, to no avail.

The body was returned to the family.
