He stole a wallet from a car parked on Viale Ciusa and stocked up on cigarettes with his debit card.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Cagliari, after breaking the car window and stealing the wallet and other personal effects inside.

The victim, when he received on his smartphone the text messages with numerous notifications of payments made with his debit card at a tobacconist in Pirri, alerted the police.

The Flying Squad officers rushed to the business and found the 36-year-old man walking nearby. Since the man was already known to the police, they decided to check him out and found 20 packs of cigarettes, a pair of steel pliers, a glass-breaking hammer, a screwdriver, the victim's wallet and four pairs of glasses in his backpack. The man, now trapped, also pointed out to the police a nearby manhole where he had left the victim's two credit cards.

All the stolen goods were returned to the rightful owner, the 36-year-old was required to sign. The charges against him are improper use and falsification of payment instruments other than cash, the 36-year-old is also being investigated for aggravated theft and unjustified possession of altered keys and lock picks.
