Confirmed the sentence of 3 and a half years inflicted in the first instance on Giuseppe Dettori.

The 46-year-old from Alghero in June 2020 attacked the former mayor of the Catalan city Mario Bruno in the street and tried to strangle him.

The judges of the Court of Appeal today confirmed the first degree sentence and rejected the request of defense lawyer Danilo Mattana to submit the accused and a further psychiatric report.

The first instance sentence, pronounced last January by the gup Antonello Spano, had taken into account the expertise of the psychiatrist Claudia Granieri, in which it was asserted that the 46-year-old had "greatly diminished the ability to understand and want". A crucial diagnosis for the sentence.

On appeal, Dettori's lawyer asked for a new report, citing previous psychiatric reports relating to other criminal sentences, again for assaults, in which the 46-year-old was recognized as totally incapable of understanding and willing. "Faced with these conflicting reports, I believe it was necessary to proceed with a new psychiatric analysis of the accused", explains the lawyer Mattana. "This - he announces - will be one of the reasons why we will not stop at this sentence and we will appeal to the Supreme Court".
