Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni testified this afternoon via video link from Palazzo Chigi in the trial, which was held in the Aula d'Assise in Sassari, in which Alessio Scurosu is accused of defamation and the Prime Minister is the injured party.

In April 2020, the then parliamentarian of Fratelli d'Italia denounced the presence of pornographic videos on the internet in which his face had been, through editing, placed on the bodies of porn actresses.

"I filed a complaint - she declared in response to the prosecutor Maria Paola Asara - because I consider what happened intolerable. I work every day to combat violence against women and I must set an example by intervening against those who make mistakes".

During the hearing there was a small spat with defense attorney Maurizio Serra over the proliferation of similar videos featuring other celebrities being treated in the same way.

"Thank you for telling me - replied Meloni assisted by the civil party lawyer Maria Giulia Marongiu - it gave us the opportunity to review the penalties for these crimes. Also because with artificial intelligence it will be impossible to understand what is true and what is not. We must start from the responsibility of the individual".

Judge Monia Adami adjourned the proceedings to February 2025 for the hearing of some of the public prosecutor's witnesses.
