A new head physician has taken up office at Nostra Signora della Mercede in Lanusei: Alberto Pullano took over the management of the complex Pediatrics unit of the Ogliastra hospital yesterday. The professional is originally from Catanzaro and won the competition that Ares Sardegna announced in recent months for the ASL Ogliastra. Doctor Pullano represents a further step towards strengthening the Lanusei hospital, which in just over a year has seen the arrival of four other directors: Roberto Prost (Radiology), Antonello Cossu (Medicine), Fabio Savini (Analysis Laboratory) and Massimo Belluardo (Nephrology and Dialysis).
Sixty years old, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome (1992). Also in the capital, he specialized in Pediatrics in 1996. He comes from the ASL of Nuoro, where he worked as a medical director in the Pediatrics and TIN UOC of the San Francesco hospital in the capital of Barbagia. Previously, the new director worked in the Neonatology division of the Cagliari university hospital company (2009-2012). Dr. Pullano also obtained two second level university Masters, both from La Sapienza University of Rome: the first in Neonatology (2007-2008), the second in Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care (2010-2011).
The new director has clear ideas about what the first steps to take at the helm of the department are. «My primary objective – explains Dr. Pullano – will be to try to extend the times and quality of hospital care , in direct proportion to the human and structural resources available, both in terms of professionals and medical devices». Pullano strongly believes in training and knowledge transfer, especially towards younger professionals. «I would like to create and grow a team, focusing on the training of healthcare workers in the complex structure (doctors, nurses and Oss). In this way – he continues – it will be possible to provide increasingly appropriate and safe services, both for operators and for patients. This – concludes Pullano – translates into maximizing the benefit and minimizing the risk».
In recent years, the hospital has suffered from a shortage of professionals in this discipline. A shortage that unfortunately is recorded both at regional and national level. The relaunch of the department and the possibility of reopening the Birth Point pass above all through competitions. "As is known - explains Andrea Marras, general director of the ASL Ogliastra - the competitions for medical directors of specialties, announced by Ares Sardegna for our Company, were published last November 29, 2024, including those concerning the complex structures of Pediatrics and Gynecology and Obstetrics. There was a resolution to admit the candidates and the composition of the commissions is about to be formalized. The competitions are waiting to be completed - continues Marras - and on the basis of their outcome and the possible arrival of new professionals for the Pediatrics and Gynecology and Obstetrics departments - continues the DG - the necessary evaluations can be made with Dr. Pullano on the possibility of a full opening of Pediatrics and, together, with Dr. Marco Dei, director of the complex structure of Gynecology and Obstetrics, regarding the reactivation of the Birth Point".
