Guasila, tears and emotion at the final farewell to Roberta Pitzalis

A packed church and great emotion at the sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption of Guasila for the final farewell to Roberta Pitzalis, the young woman – originally from the village of Trexenta – who died last Friday after being hospitalized for botulism poisoning, after participating in the Fiesta Latina in Monserrato on July 22, to which ( as revealed by yesterday's autopsy ) she was also diagnosed with hemorrhagic pneumonia.

"Other authorities are responsible for reconstructing the chain of events and any negligence that led to Roberta's death," said Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, who officiated the funeral. The Archbishop of Cagliari speaks to the heart: "It is up to me to urge you to love life, just as she did, remembering that the work we do is how we love others, how we care for them."

A shocking tragedy: Pitzalis was 38 years old . At the Fiesta Latina in Monserrato, she had bought a sandwich topped with guacamole. She was initially admitted to Brotzu Hospital and then transferred to Businco Hospital, where she died last Friday morning. She was among eight people hospitalized.

Among the hundreds present at the funeral were the mayors of Guasila and Monserrato, Paola Casula and Tomaso Locci . "We must trust in God, who is forgiveness and hope," Baturi added.

A long round of applause greeted Roberta Pitzalis's coffin as it left the church shortly before noon.
