Grifone 2026: A training exercise in rescuing disabled people in the Triei countryside.
The most important activity in the SAR – Search and Rescue sector organized annually by the Italian Air ForceVideo di Simone Loi
The Giants' Tombs of Osono in the Triei countryside are a rescue site for disabled people as part of Grifone 2026, an international, joint, and interagency exercise organized by the Italian Air Force with the joint coordination of ground activities by the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps and the National Fire Brigade.
The exercise represents the most important SAR (Search and Rescue) activity organized annually by the Italian Air Force and is aimed at strengthening the planning, coordination, and conduct of complex search and rescue operations in mountainous/impenetrable environments.
"Grifone 2026" will involve aircraft and personnel from the Defense (Army, Air Force, and Carabinieri) and other state agencies (State Police, Guardia di Finanza, Coast Guard, and Fire Brigade), along with a component of the Spanish Air Force. Ground operations will be coordinated jointly by the National Fire Brigade and the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps, with the addition of specialized personnel from other agencies.
Over the course of the week, the crews and personnel involved will operate in highly realistic scenarios, aimed at consolidating the integration between the various operational components and improving the effectiveness of intervention in complex contexts, such as the search and recovery of missing or distressed persons, support in the event of emergencies and, in the strictly aeronautical field, search and rescue activities for crews and aircraft involved in air accidents.
