It is the energy of the future . Green hydrogen is the clean and sustainable path towards decarbonisation , but from this path of renewal – once again – the Island will be cut off.

The project maps that have been circulating on the government's tables for a few weeks are terribly clear: the South H2, a gas pipeline that will bring green fuel from North Africa to the heart of Europe, will cross Italy from Mazara del Vallo (Sicily) to Tarvisio (Friuli), stopping in all the regions . Only Sardinia will be excluded from this revolution that should be "operational as early as 2030" as specified in the agreements and joint declarations between Italy, Germany, Austria, Tunisia and Algeria.

Il percorso del gasdotto

The plan calls for the two Maghreb countries to produce green hydrogen thanks to their renewable energy plants and then distribute it with a gas pipeline that will have an underwater section between the Tunisian and Sicilian coasts . The green light was given yesterday in Rome with the joint declarations signed by the European and African countries involved in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani who hosted the event together with the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
