ARST and the Region are making a major investment to upgrade the railway line between Macomer and Nuoro. Tomorrow, the first stone will be laid, marking the start of construction of the green hydrogen production plant to power the new ARST trains on the Macomer-Nuoro line.

An important milestone in the ecological transition strategy. The power plant will be built within the ARST railway area, on the outskirts of town, next to the line to Nuoro. The new trains will be delivered towards the end of 2026. This is one of the strategic projects with which ARST and the Region intend to make the regional public transport system increasingly sustainable and innovative, contributing to the decarbonization of mobility in Sardinia.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place tomorrow, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the intermodal center. Regional and local authorities will be present, including the mayor of Macomer, Riccardo Uda, and the sole director of ARST, Giovanni Mocci. A technical presentation of the project will be held by Carlo Poledrini, director of ARST, along with representatives of the contractor (Cobar Spa). Regional Environment Councilor Rosanna Laconi and Transport Councilor Barbara Manca will also be present. "The Macomer plant," states an ARST press release, "will be one of the first green hydrogen production facilities serving local public transport. Thanks to a system based on water electrolysis powered by renewable sources, the facility will generate zero-emission hydrogen, making ARST increasingly independent in managing its energy resources and contributing to a modern, sustainable, and self-sufficient mobility model." This is a significant project, part of a broader regional hydrogen infrastructure plan, which also involves the areas of Alghero and Mandas, and is aligned with the ecological transition objectives of the Region's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
