Blitz by Coldiretti in Noragugume, to give solidarity to the farmers affected by the new invasion of locusts and to invite the institutions to do more to stem the "plague" that is devastating farms and crops again this year.

«A phenomenon - explains Coldiretti - which is raging in three provinces and which is already causing serious damage to crops and pastures. All exacerbated by the lack of a control room that stems the problem and guides the right prevention policies ».

Farmers and ranchers thus gathered at the monitoring operations center for a "protest action" and to ask the FAO experts, on a mission to Sardinia, to "also hear the farmers' point of view, who will be able to explain the damage they are suffering», explains Alessandro Serra, director of Coldiretti of Nuoro.

«From 2019 to today there have been no interventions that can solve the problem. Farmers want to understand how these experts intend to intervene: here, from the initial 2,000 hectares affected in 2019, we reached 60,000 last year and this year the situation at the end of the summer will be even worse. The regional task force is working - continues Serra - but there is no control room and a plan on how to act promptly and effectively to eradicate the phenomenon. The experts of the United Nations organization have acted in some countries with carpet treatments by air means, however prohibited in the European Community, we want to understand if there are effective ways to stem the invasion here".

The task force of the Sardinia Region has arrived at the operations center, led by the commissioner of Laore Gerolamo Solina who will welcome the scientists and also some mayors of the area.

"We need a discussion with the scientists and above all it is very important that they see the extent of the invasion on the ground - said the mayor of Noragugume, Rita Zaru -. Here there is a lot of anger on the part of farmers and workers but we must take the opportunity to understand how to intervene to solve the problem as soon as possible".
